The other day, I told you about my Grandma Bach who inspired me to teach the seminar, Smart Women Finish Rich. What I didn’t share with you was the rest of the story of how it all began. In 1993, when I entered the financial service business alongside my father, I sat in his meetings and trained by his side, meeting with clients.
I was brand new to the business. We had a lot of older clients. And, unfortunately over a period of thirty days, I sat in three meetings with widows. In two cases, the husbands had passed suddenly. In the other case, the husband had been very sick with cancer. In all three cases, the women were distraught with grief and pain as they were sitting in our office, learning how to read our brokerage statements and feeling terrified about their lack of knowledge about their finances and whether they would be “okay.” One even had to learn how to write checks.
In all three cases the women would be okay, and fortunately they had a great honest financial advisor – my father. But all I could think was, “This is crazy. The WORST time to learn about money is after your husband dies.”
Then, that same month, my mom started sharing stories about her best friend being wiped out financially by divorce. Again I thought, “This is crazy. The WORST time to learn about money is when you are getting divorced.”
And that is when I looked up at my mom one day over lunch and said, “Mom, I’m going to do something about this. I am going to teach a class on women and money and get these women clients of ours up to speed financially—and you can bring your friends.”
That was in the 90’s. And now over a million women have been helped through the seminars and the books. Did we reach you yet? If not, it’s not too late.
Smart Women Finish Rich is coming to a city near you! We’ll be presenting over 75 seminars in 14 markets, over 30 days.
